Tribe ends legion season

The San Carlos Tribe, a 19-and-under American Legion baseball team, finished its inaugural season with a loss in the Area 2 tournament Monday after winning Sunday.

A potent power display and superb pitching from Kyle Stahl pointed the Tribe to a 7-1 victory over San Bruno on Sunday. Stahl gave the Tribe six solid innings, striking out six, walking three and giving up six hits (all singles) and one unearned run.

Leadoff batter Jeff Keller belted a solo home run over the left-field fence to open the game. Kyle Leong later ripped a two-out double off the righ-field wall and scored on a wild pitch.

Ahead 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh, San Carlos put the game away on a three-run rally. After Michael Ching led off on a double, Breet Gavasse stroked an RBI double and eventually scored on an error.

San Carlos lost to Palo Alto 9-7 in a Monday afternoon elimination game at Baylands Athletic Center in Palo Alto.

The middle of the order helped San Carlos take the lead in the first inning. A double from Keller started the two-out rally, then cleanup hitter Nicholas Misa drove his teammates home with a double to the wall.

Another hit and a walk followed to load the bases for San Carlos, but Misa was nabbed leading too far off third base during the walk to get Palo Alto out of the bases-loaded first-inning jam.

San Carlos left 13 runners on base.

San Carlos regained the lead in the third with a rocket shot blast off the bat of lefty slugger David Alonzo. The two-run homer to right field gave the Tribe a 4-2 lead.
