San Carlos two wins from World Series title

Riding another top-notch performance from its pitching staff and a resurgent offense, San Carlos rolled to its second straight victory in the 42nd annual Joe DiMaggio World Series. A day after Devin Bradley's complete-game five-hitter, three San Carlos hurlers combined to allow four singles as the team easily fended off Napa 9-1 on Saturday afternoon in Yountville.

San Carlos sits two wins from the championship and plays the Sierra Sun Devils, a 9-3 winner over Pacifica, today at 4:30 p.m.

Zack Turner keyed the standout effort on the mound, registering six strikeouts in three innings of one-hit ball. Jarrod Hopper allowed three hits over the next three innings, and southpaw Anthony Armanino finished.

San Carlos broke out for nine hits and all nine runs by the third.

David DiPaola (3-for-3, two RBIs) led the charge, and Tony Cooper (2-for-3) and Armanino (2-for-4) drove in a run apiece.

South City All-Stars thumped

The South San Francisco Colt All-Stars suffered a no-hitter, losing 10-0 in five innings to San Jose in the second round of the regional tournament. South City's 15- and 16-year-olds fall to the losers bracket and face Pinole today at 2:30 p.m. at PAL Stadium in San Jose.
